Synthetic Methodology Research Program
Organosulfur chemistry
As of 2018, synthetic methodology research in the Magolan Laboratory is supported by a Discovery Grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) directed towards the development of new reactions that benefit from versatile organosulfur intermediates such as vinyl sulfides and sulfoxides. In the past few years, our focus on organosulfur chemistry was spurred by an interested in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) as a reagent and substrate for new reactions.
Heterocyclic chemistry
We are broadly interested in developing efficient approaches to the preparation of unique drug-like heterocyclic scaffolds and N-heterocyclic natural products.
Heterogeneous chemistry
Prior to 2017, at the University of Idaho, the Magolan Laboratory was supported by an grant from the National Science Foundation's Division of Chemical Synthesis, directed toward developing novel green synthetic methods using heterogeneous reagents that enabled reaction purification via simple filtrative workups.
